Early on the morning of September 28th students congregated around the flagpole to lift supplication before God on the national day of prayer, See You at the Pole: We Cry Out. Students join the nation to be, “A generation seeking Him!,” Psalm 23, the focal scripture of the 2016 event reads.

The day of student-initiated prayer takes origins in a grassroots movement of 1990 in Burleson, Texas of ten students interceding for their loved ones. The name, See You at the Pole, derives from the students challenging their peers to support the Christian faith in boldness.

For nine years the 180° Bible Club has hosted the event. Under the headship of Mrs. Richard, an ESS teacher, the assembly at the flagpole has increased.

“Over the past years the event has grown in support from the campus. ROTC raises the flag for us and the church down the street sends students. Parents help around too,” Mrs. Richard said.

Christians ranging from students to school employees made an appearance to back those who attend the club regularly. Participating students were given the opportunity to observe the act firsthand.

“It was interesting to see how it all played out and I was surprised to see how many people came out and joined faculty and students,” Jorge Bott (12) said.

The day was set apart for believers to petition on behalf of their family, friends, school, and community. The vision sought differs annually as the biblical verse varies. Yet the expectations of the devotees remains through the years.

“My hope is for this day to be a day of encouragement, fellowship, and strengthening for believers here on campus,” math teacher Mr. Bailey said.
