Earthquake drills are supposed to be a procedural practice to prepare for a possible disastrous event. It occurs once each year to prep students and staff for a hypothetical situation like an earthquake. Questions were proposed to students on whether or not it´s important to have these drills.

“Yes because not everyone is level headed and they need an idea of what to do in a situation like an earthquake.¨ Said Alexis Biggs.

In such a chaotic situation like this, your mind cannot predict or even formulate a behavioral and mental reaction towards a setting like an earthquake. How can one prepare for such an event? Would people actually follow the procedures practiced if it was a real situation?

¨No because I’m running, self-preservation.¨ said Brittany Casillas.

Survival for yourself would be a common occurrence in such circumstances. If the whole purpose of practicing for a drill is to prepare, do students actually take these procedures seriously?

One student stated, Yes because there’s a scare of the San Andreas Fault and I want to be prepared to ensure my safety,” said Skye Lew.

We’ve concluded that earthquake drills are substantial to have because at any moment a event like an earthquake can occur and preparation is key. Although the practice drills occur once a year students had massive concerns of the procedure, claiming it needs improvement.

¨Instead of staff members standing around they should be walking around ensuring people’s wellness.” said Eric Thomas.

¨It needs to be a more organized exit, I walked away for 2 seconds and didn’t have any assistance on where to go.¨ Said Alexis Biggs.

In a case as this, improving the drill practice will ensure the safety for the students.
