eSports, also known as “electronic sports” or “competitive gaming,” has started to gain more popularity recently with over 226 million people as its audience in 2015, and is expected to increase over the years due to popular games like League of Legends, Dota, and Counter-Strike.

Competitive gaming has been around for awhile, started as early in the 1970’s with games at the time of “Pong”. But as time passed on new games arose and more competitions were held and in recent years they have been seen at a worldwide scale. Professional gaming teams are even being integrated into college athletics, forming at places such as University of California, Irvine to compete at a college level.

There has been controversy on whether competitive gaming would be considered a sport due to its reputation and physical capabilities. People argue that this is not a “true sports” but the “sport for the mind”. But slowly traditional sport athletes have shown some interest in eSports such as NBA player Rick Fox who owns a professional eSports organization called “Echo Fox”.

But how does it compare with one another? Professional athletes and gamers use strategy, reaction times, and as well as fitness. Strategy for certain games are complicated and they are constantly changing and evolving, reaction times are extremely fast from the mind to the game, and when it comes to fitness they try to be fit so that the mind will work better with the body.

From where eSports is at now, it is continuing to make a movement and change how we see the professional gaming scene all around the globe.
