The night of April 23rd seniors were honored for outstanding academic and extracurricular performance, and for service to the school and community.

This annual Senior Awards Night filled the Lancaster High gymnasium with students, parents, educators and members of the community. More than $17,000 in scholarships and awards were presented to the Class of 2017.

This year, remarkable students like Jaime Olmedo were selected as Valedictorians due to their academic performance throughout their four years of high school.

Olmedo who will be attending Cal Poly SLO in the fall said, “I think through dedication and knowing that my abilities are what helped me get through a lot of high school. Also knowing your time is an important factor to being successful to not just in school, but everything.”

For some of the students receiving an award was a complete surprise, while others had all confidence of what they’d be receiving. Many of these student’s greatest motivation to do well in school, have been their family and others just want to be the change they want to see in society.

“I have always been told that I should always do my best and never settle for less. My motivation was myself and my parents to always succeed,” said Valerie Ortega.

This is just another step into the amazing things that these students will be accomplishing throughout their lives, among the many seniors winning awards, Alex DeShields was recognized with a special recognition from congressman McCarthy, and was also awarded  as the student with the highest GPA of a 4.6 in the graduating class of 2017.
